PHIBSBOROUGH, an extensive suburb and district, partly in the parish of St. George, but chiefly in that of Grangegorman, Coolock barony, Dublin city and county; 1 1/4 miles N. W. from the General Post Office, Dublin. The area and population is not distinguished from the parishes in the Census returns.

It is situated partly, within, and partly without the electoral boundary, on the road to Navan, along which it extends, and on the Royal Canal and North Circular-road. Within its limits is Grangegorman church ; also a Roman Catholic chapel belonging to the union of St. Paul. The Royal Military Infirmary, the Constabulary Police Barracks, and the Zoological Gardens, all three within the Phoenix Park, the Convent of St. Mary, Cabra, the Female Orphan house and Episcopal chapel, North Circular-road, and there are National schools, male and female. Phibbsborough is a poor locality, densely inhabited by the operative and middling classes.

It is within the G. P. O. delivery, and in its limits there is a City Post Office receiver at 52, Phibbsborough-road.
