BLACKROCK a maritime town, in Monkstown parish partly in Dublin barony but chiefly in that or Rathdown county of Dublin, five miles S.E. from the General Post Office Dublin, comprising an area of 110 acres, Population, 2,372. It is pleasantly situated on the south shore of' Dublin bay, and on the great thoroughfare by railway and road to Kingstown and Bray and consists of one main and several minor Streets and Containing 355 houses, well but irregularly built. In itself these is nothing attractive, but it stands in a beautiful diversified country, studded with numerous marine and other pleasing villas, embellished with tastefully laid out grounds, commanding line views of the sea and mountains.

Its buildings are, an Episcopal Chapel, a Roman Catholic Chapel, and a Carmelite Nunnery; attached to the latter is a large female free school. There is a branch of the Rathdown Dispensary in Newtown-avenue, a Savings' Bank, Police Station, and National Schools for children of both sexes. Commodious Baths, at moderate rates, have been erected by the Railway Company and the convenience afforded by locomotive conveyance, every half hour, renders it a place of great resort to all classes chiefly for sea bathing.

The Dublin mail arrives at 30 minutes past 8, A.M., at 1, at 30 minutes past 6, and at 8 P.M; and is despatched at 30 minutes past 6, and at 11, A.M., at 3, and at 30 minutes past 5, P.M. The Post Office grant and pay money orders.
