9-Feb-1897The steamer "Ulster," one of the four Cross-channel Mail Packets placed on the station this year, and built in accordance with the conditions of the accelerated mail contract of 1896, performed trial trip from Holyhead to Kingstown in the wonderful time of 2 hours 26 minutes.

18-Aug-1897Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York arrived in Dublin and received an enthusiastic reception. On the 20th His Royal Highness received addresses in the Throne Room of the Castle, and afterwards took the oath as a member of Her Majesty's Privy Council in Ireland. His Royal Highness and Field Marshal Lord Roberts were also, invested as Knights of the Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick. Their Royal Highnesses left Dublin on 29th, and after making a tour through Ireland took their departure for Scotland, from Belfast, on 8th September.
