28-Dec-1940Very Rev. Dr, John Charles McQuaid C.S.Sp., consecrated as 47th Archbishop of Dublin in the Pro-Cathedral, Marlborough street. 
2-Jan-19413Bombs dropped at Rathdown Park, Terenure, and Donore Terrace, Dolphin's Barn. Considerable damage was done to house property, some persons were injured, but there were no deaths. 
31-May-1941Four high explosive bombs dropped in Dublin. 37 people were killed and 80 injured. Much damage was caused to house property in North Strand area. 
29-Jul-1941The Molyneux Church (erected in 1815) in Bride Street closed for public worship. The Archbishop of Dublin preached the last sermon. 
1942During this year, owing to war conditions, imports of many articles ceased or diminished. There was little coal, petrol or oil available. Street transport was reduced and numerous commodities were rationed. 
24-Aug-1942The Urban District of Howth absorbed into the County Borough of Dublin from this date.
