This Exhibition was originated by Sir Arthur Edward Guinness, bart., and his brother, Edward Cecil Guinness, esq., and contained a Manufacturers' Department Loan Museum, and National Portrait Gallery. The Exhibition was open 154 days and 58 evenings, and the entire number of admissions was 420,000, making an average of 2,700 each day. The Exhibition was formally closed on the 30th November, in presence of His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant. | | | 1873 | | Sackville-street planted with Plane Trees, "Platanus occidentals" by the Corporation of Dublin, on the recommendation of Alderman Sir James Mackey, Lord Mayor. | | | 15-Apr-1873 | | New Docks opened at the North-wall (constructed by the Midland Great Western Railway Company), by the Lord Lieutenant, and named The Spencer Dock, in honour of His Excellency. B. Stoney, esq. The length of the new bridge is 200 feet, the width of roadway 50 feet; and to that has been added two footways of 12 feet 6 inches each in width, making a total breadth of 75 feet, i.e., 25 feet broader than the old bridge opened in 1755. A grand musical performance took place in the Exhibition Palace, in connexion with the O'Connell Centenary, on which occasion Professor Glover's National Oratorio, "St. Patrick at Tara," was performed with a band and chorus of 500 performers. | |
